Who is Pennywise the clown?
Pennywise is the main antagonist in Stephen King’s classic 1986 horror novel, IT. The creature, who the children in the novel call “It” takes the form of their fears to feed off them.
IT’s favourite form is that of a clown and in the book’s opening scene he introduces himself as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
The monster lives in the sewers of Derry, Maine and resurfaces every 27 years to hunt for new victims.
In 1990 the book was adapted into a TV mini-series starring Tim Curry, going on to terrify a generation of children, but now a cinematic version has been released.

Which actor plays Pennywise the clown in the 2017 movie?
After a search that included the consideration of Tilda Swinton and Will Poulter for the part, Swedish actor Bill Skarsgard was cast as Pennywise in the IT movie.
The 27-year-old actor is the son of Stellan Skarsgard, best known for the Thor movies and Mamma Mia!
Following the box office success of IT – it topped The Exorcist as the biggest horror movie ever – Bill is set to return for a sequel which will be set 27 years after the original.

Bill said: “The second one will be the adult story. And I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different.
“I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being.
“What is he, and where does he come from? And, you know, it’s hardly answered in the novel, either. I mean, it’s very abstract. And I kind of like that.”
IT: Chapter 2 will be released on September 6, 2019.
