Liam, 19, was left sobbing uncontrollably a fortnight ago when he was given marching orders by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

He was left distraught after he was sent packing and narrowly missing out on the semi-finals.

The eviction from the famous tent proved to be controversial at the time among fans, who were left in meltdown and still appear sore at the Great British Bake Off loss.

This evening, 34-year-old Sophie beat fellow finalists Steven Carter-Bailey and Kate Lyon to the top spot after she wowed the judges with a slew of culinary creations.

After the results were announced, the former Army officer said: "It was very surreal, and I hadn't allowed myself to think that I could win it up to that moment in time when they said my name and then the enormity of it hit me.

"I do keep my emotions under control, so there wasn't really a point in the tent that I would burst into tears. It wasn't going to happen at the end of the final either, because if anything it was a relief.

"I think I am pretty cool, calm and collected. I don't mind working under pressure, so being in the tent working under time restraints and the hot weather made me more focused and better organised.”

The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on Channel 4’s catch-up service All4.
