The actress, who portrays Laurel Thomas in the ITV soap, has suggested that her character has some strong motives for murdering the crazed killer (played by Gillian Kearney).
Speaking to media including Express.co.uk at a recent press day, the 44-year-old teased that Laurel had an “absolute hatred” for Emma and could have pushed her off from the viaduct.
She explained: “Every fibre of her hates what she did to her husband and the fact that she couldn’t protect her husband in that moment.

“And then, of course her son – a 10-year-old boy, totally vulnerable, it’s every mother’s nightmare, isn’t it? Finding out that someone’s mentally tortured them so yeah, she hates this woman beyond [anything].”
Charlotte went on to say of Laurel’s movies for killing the nurse: “Well, obviously what with everything she did with Ashley, the video, and then what she did to my son.”
She said that Emma’s treatment towards her step-daughter Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) could also have added “fuel to the fire” and led Laurel down a dark path.
“So you will have to wait and see but as I said, we all have secrets as well so there's more to it,” the soap star added.
Did Laurel Thomas kill Emma Barton in Emmerdale?
The interview comes as Emmerdale boss Iain Macleod told fans to look out for a clue last week that could help them solve Emma’s murder.
He said: “I suggest that you keep your eyes peeled at the end of the week because there’s a significant prop that features – that will come to be quite significant when it unfolds…. I believe it’s the Thursday episode.”
The soap producer said that the series would be losing another character when the killer was eventually unmasked.
“The soap gods must have their vengeance I suppose, but we’ll have to see the story as it plays out, really,” Iain said.

He continued: “Look, the wheel of karma probably means that whoever’s killed Emma, in some ways’ hasn’t committed as big a crime as if they’d really killed a god-fearing, law-abiding, lovely innocent character.
“There’s a certain sense, in my mind anyway, that whoever’s done this is like an agent of god.
“So having said that, you’re right – if you’ve got blood on your hands in a soap, you can’t just get away with it – even if the consequences aren’t legal ones – there has to be some comeuppance, I suppose. And there will be.”
Emmerdale continues on ITV tonight art 7pm.
