Champions League: How Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, City and Spurs can book knockout spot

With three matches of the group games already played, all five English teams remain in the hunt for a place in the last-16.

Manchester United and Manchester City boast a perfect record in Europe this season while Chelsea and Spurs have dropped just two points.

Liverpool have struggled in their return to Europe’s elite club competitions, but put seven past Maribor last time out to boost their chances.

Express Sport is on hand to bring you what each club needs to do to qualify and when they can achieve it.

Manchester United

Manchester United will reach the last-16 if they win against Benfica tonight and CSKA Moscow fail to beat Basel.

Jose Mourinho’s side will still progress courtesy of a draw in their match if CSKA suffer defeat in Switzerland.

Should United lose, a draw or win against Basel next time out will be enough to secure them top spot.

Liverpool are the only English team unable to qualify in matchday four after drawing their opening two matches.

They remain top of Group E and will hope to bolster their goal difference when they meet Maribor at Anfield tomorrow.

With bottom-place Maribor only four points behind the Reds the group remains too tight to call.

Who could qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 this week?

Liverpool are the only English side that can't progress following the results of matchday four

Victory for the Blues over Roma this evening will send them through to the last-16.

Anything else means Chelsea will have to beat Qarabag in their following fixture to progress.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s men can reach the knockout stages with a win or a draw against Napoli tomorrow night.

City need just one win from their remaining three matches to qualify as Group winners.

Victory for Tottenham over Real Madrid at Wembley tonight would guarantee them a spot in the next round for only the second time in their history.

Madrid and Spurs could both progress if Borussia Dortmund lose to APOEL in the other fixture and they draw in the English capital.

Spurs need one win from their last three games to progress but even a defeat to Madrid and a point against Dortmund would be enough.
